Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter rose through the ranks of the Roman Catholic Church to become the only cardinal from Indiana. He led the diocese of Indianapolis and St. Louis, and championed the cause of desegregation. He became an influential cardinal in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965.

The Cardinal Ritter Birthplace Foundation is renovating the birthplace and childhood home of Cardinal Joseph Elmer Ritter, and building a community center in New Albany, Indiana.

Each year, the Arts Council of Southern Indiana produces six contemporary art exhibits in its main gallery. Exhibits feature regional and national artists. Hisorical and rotating exhibits are hosted in second floor exhibit spaces. Each opening reception gives visitors a unique opportunity to meet and talk with the artists. Upcoming art exhibits will feature sculptors, painters, glass and more.

The Floyd County Historical Society's mission is the promotion of historical study and investigation, more especially pertaining to the State of Indiana, and the County of Floyd, through the discovery, collection, preservation, organization and (if practical) the publication of historical facts pertaining to Indiana and Floyd County; and by the collection and preservation of books, pamphlets, papers, maps, genealogies, pictures, relics, manuscripts, letters, journals, field-books and any and all other articles that will describe or illustrate the social, religious, political, or industrial progress of the said County and State.

The Carnegie Center for Art and History, a department of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, serves as a cultural resource for the education and enjoyment of the citizens of Floyd County and the surrounding metro area. To fulfill that mission we collect, preserve, and interpret the history and heritage of Floyd County; promote an appreciation of and participation in the visual arts; and preserve the historic Carnegie Library building in which the museum is housed.

The mission of ArtSeed is to support artists, provide a venue for them to live, work, and collaborate with organizations and businesses In our community in a mutually beneficial relationship.

In 2017, ArtSeed will host six annual onsite exhibits in addition to collaborative exhibits with Brick Street Studio, Louisville Photo Biennial, Harrison County Arts, and the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage.
